This policy explains what personal data National Gas Engineers (“we”, “the app”) collects when you use our mobile application and this website, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. 1. Data we collect
When you register for and use the app, we collect:
- Email address — used to create your account, verify you and contact you about your account.
- Gas Safe registration number — used to confirm you are a qualified gas engineer before granting access to the community.
- Location / city — the town or city you enter on your profile. We do not track your device's GPS location.
- Account details — your display name and the date you joined.
- Content you post — forum posts, replies, questions, images and any videos you choose to upload.
- Basic technical data — app version, device type and error logs, used to diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
2. Why we use it
- To verify that members are Gas Safe registered engineers, which is what keeps the community trustworthy.
- To operate the forum, knowledge base and search features.
- To respond to your support enquiries.
- To send you service messages, and — only if you have asked for them — updates and newsletters.
- To keep the app secure and to investigate misuse.
Our lawful bases for processing are the performance of our contract with you (providing the app), your consent (marketing emails), and our legitimate interests (security, verification and improving the service).
3. Who can see your information
Your forum posts, display name and engineer status are visible to other verified members inside the app. Your email address and Gas Safe number are not shown publicly to other users.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the app (for example hosting and analytics providers), and where we are required to by law.
4. Advertising and partners
The app's home feed carries adverts from training providers, suppliers and manufacturers. These are served by us directly. Advertisers do not receive your personal data; they only receive aggregate information about how many members saw or tapped an advert.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal details. Forum content you have posted may remain visible to the community in anonymised form so that discussions stay coherent for other engineers — tell us if you would like your posts removed as well.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. You can also withdraw consent to marketing at any time. To exercise any of these, email info@nationalgasengineers.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
7. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
8. Children
The app is for working gas engineers and is not intended for anyone under 18.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
